Snapchat point system8/25/2023 Snapcode: A Snapcode is a scannable code that makes adding new friends even easier. A reel can only be played back for 24 hours, after which, it disappears for good, though you can always save your entire story, or an individual snap from your story, to the Memory section - aka private storage - of your Snapchat to keep forever. They can tap through your story and watch every snap to experience your entire day. They’ll appear to your followers as a “story” reel.

Freecad keyboard shortcuts8/25/2023 Second, I've created a FreeCAD Forum thread about this topic so that it can hopefully be iterated upon and made useful for more people in the future. 123456789 corresponds to XCDRSTWFP on my board, so whatever config files I have won't work for you. I'm using letters, not numbers, to dial in my codes. I also use the Colemak-DH keyboard layout instead of standard qwerty, which you can read about here. You will *sometimes* dial 69 for slot, but you're more regularly going to dial 65 for "circle with a center point" and 68 for "circle defined by a rim".įirst, I set up dial-a-sketch to be used on my Corne, a keyboard you can learn about in the r/crkbd subreddit. For example, in the sketcher, 6 is circle and 9 is polygon. Contradicting concepts are placed in the same column to minimize repeated use of the same finger. I've also employed a simple technique used in ergonomic keyboard layouts: actions are designed to "flow" horizontally, using multiple fingers. In terms of columns, the rightmost column is all about shapes, the central column deals with points and lines, and the leftmost column is all about modifications to existing things (The left column came together by accident, so it's not as structured as the others.) 8 is about creating lines or extruding shapes, 5 is about cutting things or creating single points, and 2 is devoted entirely to invisible items: datums, construction lines, and reference dimensions. You'll note that the upper row involves "more", while the lower rows involve "less". Fortunately, there are a few neat organizational tricks I've employed to tidy things up. Hopefully that gave you a basic mental image of the dialer layout, but I've found it very difficult to convey what the keys represent and how they relate to each other. (sketch) use existing polyline, rim polygonĪ Cluecard I drew up that's. If you wanted to make a regular pad, you would dial M89, dropping the 4 because pads are not complicated. If you wanted to create a lofted cut, you would dial M459, because 5=cut. M=part design (remapped to my mouse), 4=complex, 8=additive, and 9=pad. For example, if you wanted to create a loft, you would dial M489. Unlike traditional keyboard shortcuts, where each key is associated with the name of an action, dial-a-sketch ties each key to a basic concept, then you chain concepts together to create the action you want to accomplish. Ok, but what actually IS dial-a-sketch? It's a system of keyboard shortcuts I came up with so that I never have to take my hand off the number pad. If you know of any pre-existing designs that do what I'm doing, or if you see anything I should change, TELL ME NOW before I build any muscle memory. I expect it to entice you to read further.)ĭisclaimer: Dial-a-sketch is currently a proof of concept. 2001 space odyssey space suit8/25/2023 “Also sprach Zarathustra” was composed by Richard Strauss way back in 1896. I initially thought that it had been composed specially for the film (oops). The iconic 2001: Space Odyssey theme song is actually titled “Also sprach Zarathustra.” desert – monolith – music – ape – bone – outer space – music – moon landing – AI – murder – time travel tunnel – monolith / music / space baby – music and head explosion – heart eyes – fire (in terms of the film being exceptional) Kubrick and Music Speaking of emotions, if I had to summarize this film’s storyline in emojis, here’s what it would look like: If one of my recommendations inspires someone else to check it out and they get an equal amount of joy and satisfaction from it, I’d consider my blog posts and accompanying audio blog episodes to be a success. So this post or review will be coming from a mostly emotional perspective. When I enjoy a work of art, I enjoy it immensely in a way that is often not very rational. I’d like to preface this by saying that my book and other reviews on this blog are not always academic or analytical. There are scenes or themes in both films that elicited a very visceral and emotional response from me as a viewer. That was the reaction I had at the end of A Clockwork Orange and 2001: Space Odyssey. The classic red space suit in 2001: A Space Odyssey “What the heck did I just watch?!!” It was the 4th or 5th Stanley Kubrick film I sat down to watch.įYI, the other Kubrick films I’ve seen in order are: Lolita, Eyes Wide Shut, The Shining, A Clockwork Orange, and 2001: A Space Odyssey. I’d been warned by a couple of people that it was an extremely slow-paced film, so that’s the mindset I had going into it. I watched 2001: A Space Odyssey some time last year when it was on Netflix. WARNING: There will be some spoilers, so please keep that in mind if you know nothing about this film. The film gained critical acclaim due to it's scientific accuracy on spaceflight and it's pioneering special effects, winning the Academy Award for best special effects! Enjoy a jump back in time with this range from 2001:A Space Odyssey.Holy smokes, just thinking about completing this blog post gets me all sorts of excited! Often stated as the greatest film of all time, 2001: A Space Odyssey is a 1968 movie from legendary director Stanley Kubrick. Dr David Bowman and a team of astronauts are on board with a artificial intelligence computer named HAL 9000, Hal displays strange behaviour which leads to a conflict between man and machine. Set across millions of years, a voyage is travelling to Jupiter after the discovery of a Black monolith, with holds a connection between the past and the future. Bob williams nasa engineer8/25/2023 In 2004, a million-second exposure of nothing produced the Hubble Ultra Deep Field, filled with even more galaxies than the original. Not long after, Williams’ experiment was repeated in a different patch of sky in the southern constellation Tucana, and came to be called the Hubble Deep Field South. “And Bob Williams got a lot of nice recognition for that leadership.” “The nerve that it took to say, ‘We’re going to point where there isn’t anything,’ was interesting,” says John Mather, a Nobel Laureate and senior project scientist for the James Webb Space Telescope. To say it was a triumph would be an understatement. Together, the observations helped astronomers develop something of a shortcut for determining cosmological distances to these galaxies, unlocking large portions of the universe.Īs for public relations? The image now known as the Hubble Deep Field captivated pretty much everyone. Williams had gotten in touch with astronomers at the Keck telescopes in Hawaii ahead of time and asked them to point their Earth-based guns at the same patch of sky. The use of that discretionary time was a courageous thing,” he says.īut there was more. He was among the scientists who initially thought the deep field was a bad idea. “When the galaxies were young, they were very irregular - they were having collisions, they were erupting, they were having adolescent outbursts,” says Robert Kirshner of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. “With this achievement, the estimated number of galaxies in the universe had multiplied enormously - to 50 billion, five times more than previously expected,” wrote John Noble Wilford in The New York Times in The New York Times. And some of the older galaxies – those distant, faint ones that were supposedly impossible for Hubble to see – looked really, really different. Spiral, elliptical, irregular – red, white, blue, and yellow – the smudges of light that leapt from the final composite image cracked the universe in ways scientists never could have imagined. More than 3,000 of them came spilling out, some roughly 12 billion years old. It turned out that “nothing” was actually stuffed with of galaxies. The images were processed and combined, then colored, and 17 days later, released to the public. In total, the telescope took 342 pictures of the region, each of which was exposed for between 25 and 45 minutes. 18 and 28, Hubble stared at a patch of sky near the Big Dipper’s handle that was only about 1/30th as wide as the full moon. So, with his job perhaps on the line, Williams went off, put together a small team of post-docs, and did exactly as he’d planned. “And I was at a point in my career where I said, “If it’s that bad, I’ll resign. “Scientific discovery requires risk,” Williams says. And to him, the potential observations were so important and so fundamental for understanding how the universe evolved that the experiment was a no-brainer, consequences be damned. Wiliams suspected the billion light-year stare might capture eons of galactic evolution in a single frame and uncover some of the faintest, farthest galaxies ever seen. “But as director, I had 10 percent of the telescope time, and I could do what I wanted.” “The telescope allocation committee would never have approved such a long, risky project,” he explains. As director of the Space Telescope Science Institute, he had a certain amount of Hubble’s time at his personal disposal. And, to be honest, it didn’t really matter how much his colleagues protested. And now, finally, it was time to start erasing the frustrations of Hubble’s early years.Įxcept that staring at nothing and coming up empty didn’t seem like the best way to do that.īut Williams was undeterred. After the fix, the previously blind eye in the sky could finally see stars as more than blurred points of light. Not much earlier, astronauts had dragged Hubble into the cargo bay of the space shuttle Endeavour and corrected a disastrous flaw in the prized telescope’s vision. Perceptions of the project, which had already cost multiple billions of dollars, were pretty dismal. Plus, another Hubble failure would be a public relations nightmare. People would kill for that amount of time with the sharpest tool in the shed, they said, and besides - no way would the distant galaxies Williams hoped to see be bright enough for Hubble to detect. It was a terrible idea, his colleagues told him, and a waste of valuable telescope time. In 1995, astronomer Bob Williams wanted to point the Hubble Space Telescope at a patch of sky filled with absolutely nothing remarkable. |
